Grab your friends and get creative! New York City teens are invited to a free drop-in artmaking program at the Whitney. Bring your works-in-progress or create something entirely new. We’ll provide all of the supplies you’ll need. No previous art experience is required—everyone is welcome.
Join artist IV Castellanos for a special Open Studio for Teens inspired by the exhibition Jaune Quick-to-See Smith: Memory Map. In this workshop, define decolonization through artistic expression and explore the ways art can empower those on the margins of society. Through sculpture, teens will reflect on their identities and how to uplift their communities. The workshop will be a space for healing, creativity, and the continuation of our collective empowerment.
IV Castellanos is an abstract performance artist and sculptor. They create solo, collaborative, and group vignette performances in which objects are constructed and deconstructed by themselves and/or the collaborators in the piece. In addition, Castellanos creates standalone sculptures. The artist is a Three Spirit Queer Trans Bolivian Indigenous American.
The Hearst Artspace and the Seminar Room are equipped with induction hearing loops and infrared assistive listening systems. Accessible seating is also available.
Face coverings are required to attend this event. All attendees ages two and older must wear face coverings that cover the nose and mouth.
