Ideology, Ableism, and Capitalism: A Talk by Emily Barker | Live from the Whitney

Apr 14, 2022

Whitney Biennial 2022 artist Emily Barker aims to show how “the seemingly mundane built environment and the mass production of objects harms people every day.” For this talk, Barker shares the artistic and intellectual formation that led them to this intersectional critique. They discuss the ways in which ableism is inherent to capitalism and embedded in everything from everyday objects to privatized healthcare and austerity politics.

As we approach the holiday season, please know we are expecting to be busier than usual with the potential for long entry lines. Please arrive up to 15 minutes before your ticketed time to allow sufficient time for entry, including bag checks and other security measures. We kindly ask at this time that if it is possible to leave strollers and large bags at home please do so. We look forward to welcoming you for your visit.
