Virtual Tour:
Edward Hopper’s New York

Thurs, Nov 17, 2022
12 pm

Online, via Zoom

Join Joan Tisch Teaching Fellow Jason Vartikar for a virtual tour of Edward Hopper’s New York to explore Hopper’s lifelong and intimate depictions of his beloved city.

The thirty-minute session will introduce the exhibition through a discussion of highlights from the show in context. Participants are invited to comment and ask questions through a moderated chat for a fifteen-minute Q&A following the talk.

Jason Vartikar is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Art and Art History at Stanford University, writing a dissertation on melancholy in American art from 1915–45, focusing on the paintings of Charles Burchfield and Edward Hopper. Committed to curatorial practice informed by feminist, critical-race, and decolonizing perspectives, he was a founder/director of the New York City gallery Hansel and Gretel Picture Garden/Pocket Utopia (2011–15) and has developed exhibitions with the contemporary artists Marie Watt (Seneca) and Rina Banerjee.
